For Families & Community

Young people with family and community support are more likely to finish school, pursue further education, and build meaningful careers. Your involvement makes a real difference.

And you bring something schools and employers can't: cultural knowledge, community connections, and the long view of what matters.

Listen and encourage

Ask young people what they're interested in. What do they love doing? What comes naturally to them? Not all talents show up in school marks. Some of the most important strengths are things schools don't measure.

Share your stories

Tell young people about your own pathway - where you studied, what you've done, what you wish you'd known. If you've faced challenges, share those too. Real stories are more powerful than advice.

Help them understand their options

The education and employment system is complex. Help young people navigate it. Ask questions. Read about options together. Talk to the Aboriginal Education team at school.

Connect them to community

Introduce young people to people doing work you admire. Help them see that careers can be built by people like them, from communities like theirs.

Understanding post-school options

The options available to young people now are different from what might have been available when you were their age.
